GREY Mist Mere is fishing like a dream for Warrington Anglers' Association at present with regular Will Hamblett catching 10 carp, all of which were doubles.
However the best weight fell to the rod of Gareth Kitson who netted his first 20lbs fish and a massive eel of 6lbs which took a fancy to his hair rigged boilie.
Dave Bolshaw made the acquaintance of Henry, who weighed in at 21lbs. Steve Penney had a 20lbs 8ozs 0drms mirror and Dave Brice must have had its twin at the same weight.
Over the weekend eight 20lbs plus carp were caught. Tench are still hungry and feeding well in the margins.
Ackers Pits are bang on form with roach virtually swarming up anglers lines as they compete for offerings. Maggot works best but feed little and often.
Try a visit to Rixton Claypits for some cracking tench action.
The Trent and Mersey canal is looking more promising with reports of a surprise 3-8-0 tench from Billinge, bags of roach from Big Lock on caster or tares and bream to 5lbs from the wides on the tip and red maggot.
A member battled his way through the undergrowth and reeds on the old Weaver at Saltersford Lock and had three good bites in an hour to produce a good chub. More reports please from this water.
Try the Dee at Almere Ferry and the mouth of the Alyn for good nets of roach, dace, and chub taken on the feeder. Churton is producing some quality dace on stick float fished maggot.
Fish-snatching big pike, mostly doubles, can be found on pegs where there are overhanging trees.
On the River Dane odd catches of chub between 30lbs and 50lbs on stick float and caster and legered meat.
A reminder that teams wishing to compete in the top team challenge event on October 31 must get their entries in to Chris Grehan yesterday! He can be contacted on 635373.
English angler Geoff Cooper will be at Woolston British Legion on October 22 to demonstrate tackle requirements and rigs, groundbait mixes and a few wrinkles that will help you catch more fish.
The prize draw could see you on an Irish holiday freebie so it promises to be an interesting night.
There will be a small cover charge of £1 adults, 50p children with the proceeds going to the WAA junior match group.
Best of luck to our junior and intermediate teams who are fishing the National Junior Anglers Association Challenge Shield tomorrow, Saturday, on the Rochdale Canal at Todmorden.
HQ Parker Street is open as usual tonight, Friday, for new members, subscriptions, or just drop in for a chat about fishing. I can be contacted with your queries or catch reports on 01928 716238, fax 713898.
