TRADING Standards Officers have issued a warning about a dangerous lamp on sale in Warrington.
The Disco Light, which retailed at £42.50 in at least one Warrington shop, failed on several counts when submitted by officers for independent testing.
They found that users could get electric shocks from the light bulb holder and that the internal wiring was easily accessible.
The Taiwan-made table-top lamp consists of a motorised base attatched to a black globe covered in coloured discs. When switched on the globe rotates casting coloured rays of light.
A smaller model retailing at £21.50 is also available.
Supply of the lamp is prohibited, and a Manchester supplier is working with Trading Standards to recall the 1,300 supplied since May. Anyone who has bought the lamp is urged to return it to the retailer for a refund.
