A WARRINGTON man claims police pranksters almost scared him to death with their van's loud-hailer.

Alan Wilde, of Birch Grove, Paddington, claims that officers used their vehicle's speaker system to warn him that 'The end is nigh' while he was sat in traffic last Friday afternoon.

He also alleges a policeman shouted 'We are watching you' before stopping outside a house on Padgate Lane.

The 56-year-old, who suffers from a heart condition, was left shaken and upset by the incident.

"I was so shocked that I simply concentrated on the traffic flow and I was shaking afterwards.

"If the policeman was having a joke, it was in very poor taste, even if he thought he knew the driver in front. I had a heart attack three years ago and don't want another!" he said.

Alan took down the details of the van but because he did not make a formal complaint Cheshire police can not investigate the alleged incident.

A police spokesperson said: "Until we receive a formal complaint to Warrington division, there is very little we can do about the matter."
