THE RESIGNATION of two borough councillors could result in a double by-election next month.
At a meeting on Tuesday night, the Great Sankey Labour Party selected parish councillor Hilary Cooksey as their candidate for Great Sankey North. Nominations for the other parties are due in by today, Friday.
The election, which follows the resignation of Clr Carl Drillsma, will be held on Thursday, October 29.
Liberal Democrat Clr Tom Dooley has stood down as borough councillor for Grappenhall and Thelwall. Discussions are underway as to whether a by-election will be held to find a replacement for Clr Dooley, who is resigning due to work commitments.
The new councillors would hold their seats until the borough elections next May.
