COUNCILLORS in Fairfield and Howley are keeping up their battle to 'protect the viability and vitality' of Warrington's town centre.
Clr Mike Hughes has written to both Warrington MPs urging Government action to make the reclamation of brown field sites for housing developments more attractive for developers.
"The attraction for retail development is that it increases land values to four times that of housing," he said.
"Whilst this may be commercially attractive, it does very little for the local communities. We need to concentrate on preserving the town centre. Out-of-town retail presents a threat to the traditional town centre and we have to start putting the interests of people first."
