PARENTS and teachers in Winsford and Middlewich can now prevent children accessing Internet websites containing sex and violence.
They can apply for a family content filter - the latest software technology to provide free search services.
Mirago is a new search engine aimed specifically at businesses and families. The filters use techniques to analyse page content at the time the site is indexed. If a page is found to contain sex and violence references, it is classified accordingly.
There are currently several initiatives to 'rate' web resources in a similar way to cinema films and videos.
Such rating schemes do however need to be applied by the webmasters of each site, so it could take several years before there is effective global control.
But Winsford and Middlewich Internet users can find a solution today to reduce the risk of children stumbling across undesirable content.
Mirago content filters can be applied optionally through the main Mirage pages (which are on www.mirago.co.uk) or permanently through a special 'protected' family friendly area located at www.mirage.co.uk/zone called the Mirago Zone where sex and violence filters are active at all times.
