I WAS trying to find Caernarvon Close on a Winsford map the other day and I couldn't help noticing how many similar road names there are in the town.

Isn't this a problem for the emergency services?

Caernarvon sounds like Camarthen, Ash and Aston could be confused, Bakers Court and Bakers Lane are virtually identical as are Bollin Avenue and Bollin Close.

And the list goes on. What about Bradbury Road and Bradford Road, Bramble Close and Bramhall Close, Chester Lane and Chester Road, Cheviot Court and Cheviot Square, Hawthorne Close and Hawthorne Grove, Lagos Close and Lagos Grove?

Who is responsible for road naming in the town? I for one would like to know. With millions and millions of possible names, why do we have to go for those which are almost identical?

It seems stupid to me and I bet it's caused a few problems for police, fire and ambulance services in the area.

Lost in Winsford.
