Middlewich Town 2
Cheshire Amateur Cup
A STEVE Moss-inspired victory at Chester put Middlewich into the next round of the Cheshire Amateur Cup.
Moss, who joined his home town club in the summer from Nantwich Town, was inspirational in Town's midfield, just as his dad, Colin, was 20 years ago.
Moss set up Town's first effort on goal with a splendid pass to Nicholson who drove his shot just over Chester's bar.
Then ex-Crewe Alex centre-half Chris Culter brought out a magnificent save from Town keeper Karl Walton, who tipped his shot round for a corner.
Middlewich were having all the possession with Moss and Cain playing some neat football, but they could not find that elusive first goal and the teams went in level at the interval.
The second half saw the introduction of Peter Lewis, who had been out for three weeks, and his forward runs caused problems for Chester, but it was Moss who created Middlewich's first goal.
He played a delightful pass to Terry Cain who crossed into Chester's box, and the ball was met by left-back Andy Ostrowka who headed past the stranded keeper.
Chester started to push more men forward, desperately looking for the equalizer, but with 15 minutes remaining Middlewich put the game to rest.
Lewis played the ball wide for Rowlands, who crossed for Moss to smash home his well-earned goal.
