SINGERS, dancers and performers had their eyes set on stardom last Friday when this year's Search for a Star talent show was held at Winsford Civic Hall.
Amateur entertainers from all over Cheshire battled for first place in the contest which saw 15 separate acts go before the judges.
But it was 35-year-old Alex Colby, of Warrington, who came away with first prize by impressing the organisers with his performance of the hit song from the film Titanic - My Heart Will Go On.
After the results were announced and presentations were made, Alex said: "The standard and quality of entertainment in this year's talent show was extremely high.
"I entered the contest last year but never got anywhere and so I decided to give it another shot.
"I didn't think I would win. To be honest I thought it had gone to a girl called Lyndsey Brown who sang a disco version of Don't Cry For Me Argentina."
He added: "I won't be entering the competition next year because once you've won it you can't go back in for it again.
"But I'll be there watching Search for a Star 99. A date has already been set for it - November 26."
