THE new Wharton Junior School building, which was completed earlier this year, was officially opened yesterday, Tuesday.
The ceremony at the new £1.5 million school, off Greville Drive, included the unveiling of a commemorative plaque by Cheshire County Council chairman David Newton and the Bishop of Birkenhead, the Rt Rev Michael Langrish.
The celebration was shared with many members of the local community and the school's children, with representatives from each year giving readings of poetry and impressions.
The new 10-classroom school was funded by the county council and built on land acquired from Vale Royal Borough Council.
It includes an assembly hall, practical area, kitchen, office, staff accommodation, a library and a resources room. There is also space for playgrounds and a sports field on site, which the previous premises lacked.
The future of the old school premises on School Road will be decided by the diocesan authority.
