A GYPSY was thrown across a road after getting a massive electric shock from a caravan generator.

The man was launched into the air during the incident last Thursday at Barlow Road, Moulton, leaving him with serious injuries to his leg.

He was preparing to leave private land near Winsford at around 10am when the accident happened.

Vale Royal Borough Council senior enforcement officer Mike Ward arrived on the scene just minutes after the man received the horrific shock.

Mr Ward said: "I was there when the ambulance came for him.

"The man had been working on a generator and it would appear it had a fault.

"He was trying to repair it when he got a very serious electric shock. It was a nasty incident which threw him across the road and gave him a severe injury to his left leg.

"Apparently it was a clean break. He was very frightened and his family were very worried about him. He had snapped his thigh bone and I believe he had surgery on Friday."

Mr Ward explained why he had been at the gypsy encampment.

He said: "I was there because the gypsies had previously been on council land and I was checking they were gearing up to move on.

"My job is to take steps to try to encourage gypsies to move off council land. They were about to leave town when the accident happened.

"Nobody would wish anything like that on anyone. He was a lucky man. The family were very upset about it."
