Graham Brady was devastated to discover two holdalls, rods and a fishing box had been stolen from the shed of his home on King George Avenue in Northwich.
"That's all I did," said the 45-year-old. "I don't work because I look after my wife who's ill. All I did was go fishing."
Mr Brady's youngest son's fishing equipment was also stolen, along with his fishing permits and his eldest son's bike.
"Ben had bought his gear with money given to him at birthdays and Christmas," added Mr Brady, who normally goes fishing three times a week. "As soon as he comes home from school he wants to go fishing."
The pair, who are both members of Northwich Anglers, are appealing for the return of their equipment.
Mr Brady has put notices up near his home and is asking for the public's help.
"I just hope that it gives whoever's got it a lot of pleasure," said Mr Brady. "I hope whoever took it rots in hell."
The items were stolen between 8pm and 8.30pm on Friday.
The thieves ripped the padlock off Mr Brady's shed before escaping with their haul, worth an estimated £800.
"One of my sons is normally out until about 10pm," said Mr Brady, who was uninsured.
"I heard something and just thought it was one of them going into the shed. If anyone knows anything will they phone the police."
Northwich police can be contacted on 01606 48000.
