SAINTS Peter and Paul RC High School in Widnes are putting together a Sport Lottery Bid for £1 million indoor cricket centre at their school.

The school was undeterred by an unsuccessful lottery bid made in July, and are submitting a scaled down bid with the help of Halton Borough Council.

The original bid was made jointly with Wade Deacon High School who has now withdrawn from the project.

The Sports Council Lottery Grants are only given to help develop community use and therefore any facility built at the school will have to be available from both school and community use.

The application must prove that there are satisfactory levels of demand for the new facility and that it will not take business from other facilities.

Because of this, officers from the Council's Cultural and Leisure Services division will be involved in the project.

They will also work with the Education Directorate on the mangement and operational issues.

The proposal for the indoor cricket centre has already received approval from the English Cricket Board.
