South Wirral Premier League
Mersey Ferries 1
Halfway 3
HALFWAY gained a hard-fought victory over their Wirral opponents with a fine attacking first-half display.
Halfway's strikers, Dave Whitfield and Andy Shaw, ran the Ferries' defence ragged.
Andy Thompson put Neil Howard through to open the scoring.
Dave Whitfield then went close a number of times before he put John Keogh through to beat the goalkeeper to score the second.
The Ferries goalkeeper was performing heroics to keep the score respectable when Tony Keogh crossed and Paul Stevenson danced through a couple of tackles to score.
In the second-half Ferries tried to press forward but Martin Hunt and Liam Brannigan were outstanding in defence.
Halfway's stand-in goalkeeper, Brian Francis, dealt with all the long-range shots but had not chance of the Ferries goal, who scored with five minutes to go.
Mom, Neil Howard.
