NINE lime trees alongside the town's Coronation Gardens have been felled after an investigation revealed they were suffering from a root disease.
Experts were called in to investigate after a serious accident last month when a tree fell across Beam Street narrowly missing an elderly car driver.
Mrs Alison Turner was driving along Beam Street towards the Barony Road crossroads when the 40ft lime fell, crushing the boot and petrol tank.
Root disease combined with strong winds had caused it to tumble.
Residents have been asked what they would like to see replacing the trees as part of the borough's winter planting scheme.
