New Brighton u16s 3

Widnes u16s 50

FORWARD power, with Dunn at the forefront, provided more than enough ball for the stylish backs to let rip. Stubbs (4), Webb (2), Murray and Doran clocked up the tries. There is no doubt that Orrell will provided stiffer opposition in this Sunday's Lancashire Cup Tie at Heath Road, kick-off 11am.

Widnes u13s 20

Mold u13s 19

A REARRANGED game that held the now familiar big crowd in suspense right up to the final whistle.

The game started horribly for Widnes as they we 19-0 down after 15 minutes, but something inside each and every player, especially the replacements, stirred itself into action and a fight-back of epic proportions began.

Every single squad member, all of whom played at some points, was a man of the match, but the comeback started with Nicklin who used not only his considerable pace but brains as well to squeeze in at the corner.

He followed that up with a glorious 40 yard effort in the second-half.

Barratt powered his way over after several barnstorming runs and Wavell used his pace to beat the cover and fly over the try line.

Glover at stand-off once again led by example and his handling skills were a treat to watch.

Mention has to go to a truly fantastic pack performance.

It would be wrong to pick out any individual but two vital strikes against the head by Lightfoot kept the ball with Widnes when Mold were on the point of scoring. Tackle of the game went to Mike Savage.

Wids Kids u9s, The Littleborough Festival

THE WIDS Kids u9s reached the final of the Littleborough Festival only to be beaten 5-0 by Harrowgate.

The only try of the game came in the first-half and appeard to be dropped over the line.

Two last-ditch tackles kept the Harrowgate line intact.

In the pool games, Widnes beat Huddersfield 10-0 with tries by Shaun Newall and Ben Owen but lost to Harrowgate 10-5, the Wids Kids only try coming from Newall.

In the semi-final Manchester stood in the way but one try by Owen was enough to get Widnes to the final.

A feature of all the games was Casey Watmore's strong forward running and Dane Boyle, Gavin Hatton and Ryan Martindale supported the forwards well.

Chris Keen, Neil Shaw and Tom Ward never gave up trying to win possession of the ball, but in the end it was not going to be the Wids Kids day.

Semi-Final

Huddersfield u8s 25

Wids Kids u8s 15

Wids tries by Paul McLindon (2), Joe Webb. THE u8s came of age in an entertaining day out in Littleborough.

They coped admirably with some inconsistent refereeing and some very high quality opposition and got visibly better and more organised the more games they played.

They started slowly against Preston GH but were inspired to a spirited fight-back after a brilliant solo try by Chris Rigby.

Against Harrogate they were unlucky to lose by the odd try in five after looking the better side for much of the game.

Otley were a real handful, looking easily the best side in that half of the draw, but the Wids edged them out of the Semi-Finals with an excellent team display and some brilliant attacking rugby by the Wids u8s, man of the tournament, McLindon. The Wids lost the u8s Semi-Final to the unbeaten Huddersfield u8s side but proved a real test for them drawing 15-15 at half-time before succumbing to two late tries.
