NW Counties u15s Premiership
Widnes St Maries u15s 18
Saddleworth u15s 16
WIDNES Maries led 16-0 at half-time playing almost perfect rugby.Aggressive defence from the outstanding Paul Miller backed up with crunchers from Owen Brown and Richard Swales, whilst Lee Campbell, Paul O'Conner and Adam Flanagan, constantly probed the Saddleworth line, laid the platform for Ste Myler, reminiscence of Uncle Tony, to execute some fine passing moves in the three-quarters.
Ben Smith finished off excellent moves to score two tries in the unaccustomed role of centre, Carl Leach sneaking in a metre out to make it three with two of the tries being converted.
In the second-half Maries lost their way and Saddleworth dominated for the majority of the half.
With two minutes of the game left and the score 16-16, Maries were awarded a penalty 40 metres out.
Gary Middlehurst kicked a superb goal and Maries stole the points.
