Widnes Albion Bulls 10
Simms Cross 14
DESPITE having the lions share of the ball and having more attacking play, the Bulls could not score and went 0-12 down to two converted tries, but having tries by Gary Richardson and Paul Davies disallowed due to weak refereeing even the visiting players admitted there was nothing wrong with the second try for certain.
Albion managed to reduce the arrears with two penalty goals by Chris Fenlon and Andy Friar before Simms Cross landed a drop-goal.
Pressure paid off when Wayne Swindley galloped over under the posts, Fenlon converting to reduce the arrears to three points. A late drop-goal to the visitors only served to rub a little salt into the Albion's wound.
Shaw Rhinos A 13
Widnes Albion Bulls 42
WIDNES Albion Bulls A team got off to a slow start, but once Peter Wych scored the first try and a Danny Doherty conversion there was only going to be one winner. A second converted try to Ste Bancroft gave the Albion a 12-3 interval lead. Good tackling from Anthony Knight, Neil Burke and Bancroft wore down the much bigger home pack and good running by Ste Donnelly, Dean Edge, Mark Lynch and Shaun McGahan paved the way for second-half tries by Lynch and a brace for Darren Yates while subs Andy Webster and Stu Shepherd came on to land touchdowns. Good play by Webster landing a second try right at the end, Doherty landing four goals and Yates one.
Widnes Albion Bulls are at home to Wigan St Cuthberts while the A team entertain Spotland Rangers.
