A CHAMPION weightlifter who moved away from Warrington 12 years ago still pines every day for the love he left behind.

Michael O'Connor, who now runs his own gym in County Kerry, Southern Ireland, used to drive buses around Warrington when he wasn't taking part in weight-lifting competitions.

He became engaged to divorcee Gladys Edwards, and they were due to be married. But then the couple split, which Michael admits was all his fault.

"Instead of staying in Warrington to sort things out I left for Ireland, and I have regretted it ever since," said Michael.

"I still think about her every day. I have never settled with anyone else, and if she is still interested I would love to hear from her."

Michael, who once came sixth in the world in a body building competition, still holds weight-lifting records in both the UK and Ireland.

When he knew Gladys she was living in Greenwood Crescent, Orford, and had a daughter Wendy, and two sons Raymond and Derek.

If anyone knows of Gladys's whereabouts, they should contact the Warrington GUARDIAN offices on 434114 and we will pass on Michael's address.
