MULDER would call it a cover up but one thing is for sure - a television programme is set to spark new debate about the spooky goings on in the skies of Warrington.

Unexplained happenings in the north west are the subject of Origin Unknown, a documentary looking at the possibility of extra-terrestrial life. But weird Warrington barely gets a mention despite its high record of X-Files phenomenon. UFO experts, who have dubbed the town "Wonderland" claim it has one of the highest rates of UFO sightings in the region.

Former resident and UFO researcher, Jenny Randles, who appears on the programme, has claimed that the area around Daresbury and Moore, Helsby Hill and Runcorn is a playground for supernatural activity. It is thought to be one of the most active areas in the country for strange sightings.

She claims that although Daresbury Laboratory is not responsible for any of the bizarre spectacles, it is not unusual for places of scientific research to attract alien attention.

The list of unexplained objects spotted in the town is enough to give Fox Mulder nightmares. Over the past three years, there have been reports of car engines cutting out and bright lights appearing, a huge cigar-shaped object - the size of an aeroplane - travelling beside a car near Preston Brook and a golden ball hovering above Sankey Way.

Sandra Podmore and her daughter, Natasha, from Appleton, reported seeing inexplicable balls of light in the sky when they were travelling home from stables in Daresbury. And Helen Syers, from Orford, couldn't believe her eyes when she saw a floating disc-like object hovering over the trading estate by Long Lane.

One man even claimed to have been abducted. He remembered driving by the Ring O'Bells in Daresbury but then suddenly found himself 40 miles away, unaware of what had happened!
