A RUNCORN man claims that a police officer beat him up while he was handcuffed.

Trevor Bousfield says he plans to seek damages after a police constable allegedly struck him several times in the face at Widnes police station , breaking his nose and chipping his teeth.

Mr Bousfield, 25, was arrested outside the Bank Chambers in Runcorn after he was thrown out of the pub.

When they arrived at Widnes, he claims, he was laid face down on the ground and seriously assaulted.

Mr Bousfield was released on bail after being charged with possession of cannabis and being drunk and disorderly.

A Cheshire police spokeswoman confirmed that an allegation had been made and was being investigated.
