The duo are part of the three strong Stuart Jones Racing team which will be competing in the British Sports Production Championship this year.

Joined by Stuart Jones himself, it is the pairing of Jones and Poole which is likely to have the biggest impact on the factory teams such as Yamaha, Kawasaki and Honda.

"There will be quite a few factory based teams in the championship because each manufacturer wants to prove their bike is the best production bike. There will be a few British Superbike riders involved, including Steve Hislop," explained Tim.

"We are just hoping to make the big names look a bit stupid by winning as many races as possible."

Poole, from Percy Street, turned down a host of offers for rides with bigger teams to sign on with Stuart Jones Racing because of his hunger for winning.

And he sees the Sports Production Championship, which allows very little tuning of the bikes, as the ideal arena for his talents.

He added: "The factory offers I had weren't what I would consider good offers. They all wanted me to be a support rider, which meant finishing second at best.

"That's not what I am about. As far as I am concerned racing is about riding to win."

Instead he took up an offer from Stuart Jones to race in his fledgling team.

Indeed, Jones had been so impressed by Poole when he rode for him at the end of last year in the Anglesey Grand and recorded four victories that he urged Poole to sign up for 1999.

Jones, from Crewe, and Poole each have two new Yamaha 1000cc YZ-FRIs to ride during the season. They intend to warm-up for the March 21 opening race at Cadwell Park by riding at Mallory Park the week before.

The season also takes in Donnington on the same billing as the World Superbikes and Brands Hatch.

As for Carson, Poole said: "He is still only 19 but is a really talented rider. He will be riding a 600cc YZ-FR6 which he isn't yet familiar with.

"It will be a totally new bike to him so we're hoping to take him out testing on it in mid-February to give him time to prepare for the start of the season.

"It will probably take him a little while to get used to things but he should do well over the course of the season."

David is certainly in good hands, having gained valuable racing experience in the Aprilia 125 British Junior Championship.

This season Poole also hopes to ride in the Isle of Man Classic TT rally for the second consecutive year and the Southern 100 in July.

THE Stuart Jones Racing team is sponsored by Electrack Installations, Dynamic Leathers and Michelin.
