Knutsford A 4

Finbar Macs 1

KNUTSFORD continued their winning run against powerful Finbar Macs at Manchester Road on Saturday.

The strong Wythenshawe side dominated the opening half hour, but in the 35th minute Knutsford took the lead.

A cheeky Nikki Darby back heel found Knutsford's leading goalscorer Jimmy Evans, who unleashed a tremendous shot from 22 yards.

The goal was a catalyst for Knutsford to find their best form, and they needed to against a team that had beaten them convincingly earlier in the season.

Brad Francis had an outstanding game in Knutsford's mid-field along with Andy Jackson and 16-year-old Matthew Stimpson.

In the second-half, the home side played some great football.

In the 56th minute, Evans was awarded a penalty.

The goalkeeper got most of his body behind the ball, but the Knutsford man reacted well to force the ball home at the second attempt.

Darby scored the third midway through the half as Knutsford grew in confidence.

The visitors continued to press forward in search of a breakthrough and forced a succession of corners and free kicks. Finbar Macs' set pieces were always a threat, but Knutsford keeper Roberts was in fine form.

Their only goal followed a penalty in the 70th minute.

Knutsford made three substitutes in the final 15 minutes with youngsters Moss, Thornley and Mottersead coming on to finally run the legs off the weary opposition.

With 10 minutes left, full back Hargreaves pushed forward to deliver a perfect cross for Evans to head home superbly to complete a hat-trick.

Knutsford A will be at home on Saturday to either United Services in the league, kick off 2pm or Altrincham Gas in the league cup, kick off 1.45pm.
