THE call has gone out for super sopranos and terrific tenors to boost a flourishing local choir.

Members of the Grove Singers are recruiting choristers for a season of musical meetings at Kings Grove School.

Sessions are held at the school on Monday nights between 7pm and 9pm for ten nights per school term, and the choir give several public performances a year, usually raising money for charity.

A spokesman for the choir said this year's repertoire would include arrangements for the songs of Cole Porter, George Gershwin, opera choruses, folk songs and spirituals.

"The choir began in January 1995 as an evening class for bathroom Pavarottis and Dame Kiris," he said.

"Many people had never sung in a choir before and some were more experienced. Since then it has gone from strength to strength and now we have about 40 regulars.

"Sessions are always fun with an emphasis on singing for pleasure. Vacancies currently exist in the tenor and bass sections, but we never turn anybody away."

Grove Singers made an appearance at the Macclesfield Festival last year, but the ability to read music is not essential for new singers.

There will be no audition and elements of voice training will be included in the sessions. For more details contact conductor Maggie Richardson on 01270 214419.
