BIRTHDAY celebrations were in full swing at Brookfield House Residential Home in Nantwich last Sunday as one of the residents celebrated 100 years.

Mrs Agnes Maud Evans had a visit from her family and the borough mayor Ray Stafford and mayoress Shirley Stafford during her party.

Mrs Evans was born on January 31 1899 in the small village of Astwood near Bletchley as the youngest of a family of 10 children.

She married Frederick Joseph Evans, a foreman at Crewe Works who inspected the Royal Train and was a housewife and mother of four.

She now has six grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren the youngest being just one-year-old.

Mr Evans died 17 years ago and Mrs Evans became a resident at Brookfield House in Shrewbridge Road in April 1995.

A spokesperson for Brookfield House said: "She is very frail but a pleasure to care for. Her family say how much she disliked chocolate when she was younger but now is making up for lost time, the confectionary is her favourite."
