WARRINGTON'S Community Health Council has taken part in a national survey of hospital A&E departments.

A team of representatives visited Warrington Hospital to find out how long patients were waiting for treatment.

They found that two patients had been assessed, but had been waiting more than five hours for a hospital bed and three more had waited for more three hours.

The longest wait experienced by a patient waiting for treatment, but not requiring admission, was a baby boy who waited one hour and 38 minutes.

Chairman of the CHC, Ron Ferguson, said: "We regret that patients are having to wait for such long periods, but we are aware that there is still considerable pressure on services at the hospital.

"Unprecedented attendances in A&E put hospital services under extreme pressure and we should like to take this opportunity to thank the staff for their hard work and dedication during a very difficult time."
