THE OWNERS of one of Warrington's private hospitals have denied rumours that it is on the market.

The speculation started after Health Care Projects, who own and manage the Daresbury Wing, the private hospital in the ground of Warrington Hospital, held discussions with the NHS Trust about a possible sale.

But the company refutes claims that it is looking for a buyer.

Warrington Hospital's Chief Executive Mike Deegan says these talks have now concluded and the Trust has no plans to purchase Daresbury Wing ."Our talks were very useful," he said, "but have not led to any agreement. Warrington Hospital NHS Trust's managers say their discussions with HCP formed part of a range of possible options to increase NHS services and facilities for the people of Warrington.

Mike added: "We are now examining other ways to enhance the service we offer to local people and wish the Daresbury Wing and their staff all the best for the future."

The £5 million private hospital was opened to patients just one year ago. Lord Daresbury performed the official ceremony in June. The Wing offers 30 in-patient beds, as well as additional out-patient clinics, and buys other services, such as X-ray, pathology, radiology and estate management from Warrington Hospital NHS Trust. Profits from the sale of these services and the cash received from rent of the land means the Trust would receive £250,000 over 4 years.

A spokesman for HCP said: "Some of the speculation regarding the Daresbury Wing is unsubstantiated.

"We have 66 consultants with admitting rights and the number of operations is increasing all the time. The response we have had from patients has been very positive."
