EVERYBODY needs good neighbours, according to Age Concern, which is looking for volunteers to help older people in Middlewich.

The pensioners' charity is keen to find people in the town who can spare an hour or two each week to help somebody in a neighbourly way.

"We carry out a range of tasks" said Rosemary Millican, Good Neighbour co-ordinator in Middlewich, "We want all older people to feel they do have a good neighbour to turn to, just at the end of the phone.

"Older people contact our office for help and we match them to a volunteer who is able to assist at that time.

"Each volunteer does just what they feel able to do, when they can and are well supported by Age Concern."

Tasks volunteers could be asked to do, include shopping, a friendly chat, collecting a prescription or another small odd job.

Good Neighbours has been operating for a year and has been able to help more than 100 older people throughout Congleton borough. For more information about the scheme phone 01606 836599 or 01260 290080.
