A 12-MONTH review that will change the electoral shape of Cheshire was launched yesterday, Tuesday.

The Local Government Commission for England is to examine the current composition of the county's electoral divisions.

This is because some divisions boast a far larger electorate than others and the review will seek a more equitable formula.

Cheshire's policy committee has recommended consideration of an extra four to eight seats in a bid to ensure a more balanced representation across the county.

The review follows the commission's newly implemented ward arrangements for borough councils. Boundaries of the county's electoral divisions will conform to those.

It will almost certainly result in changes to all existing 48 electoral divisions and the creation of new divisions.

Draft proposals will be on display at libraries around the county and interested people and organisations have until May 4 to submit their own ideas for possible changes.

Letters should be sent to The Director of Reviews, The Cheshire REview, Local Government Commission for England, Dolphyn Court, 10-11 Great Turnstile, London, WC1V 7JU.
