WARRINGTON Wolves' former vice-chairman is the new Rugby Football League president.

Bill Garratt's chain of office will bring him maximum entries in his social diary as he will be representing the RFL at various functions around the country over the next 12 months.

Even though 60-year-old Bill is no longer a director of the Wolves he currently remains as the club's representative on the RFL Council.

Bill, who married Trish last July and now lives in Timperley, has been on the council since 1985.

He says: "It is an honour for me and the Wolves. And it is another positive for the club that a Warrington man is carrying out this role and will be attending dinners and a variety of functions on behalf of the RFL.

"This position used to be the chairman until it changed in 1988. The last Warrington person to hold either position was Bob Anderton who was chairman from 1942 to 1945."

Bill, who stepped down with the other directors to make way for the new consortium of businessmen that are now in charge at Wilderspool, is looking forward to the new Wolves season and is pleased with the new chief executive signing.

He added: "It's exciting news that Peter Deakin is now on board. He'll do a great job for the club."
