RESIDENTS across Newton are being offered the chance to help shape waste disposal strategies for the next millennium.

Every year the people of Merseyside throw away 670,000 tonnes of waste - enough to fill three football stadiums to the brim twice a year. Presently the authority sends 95 per cent of this waste to landfill sites at ever increasing distances from Merseyside.

Merseyside Waste Disposal Authority is beginning work on a 25-year plan for waste disposal and is urging Newton residents to air their views.

Council Recycling Officer Grace Tatlock would like to hear from anyone interested in attending an exhibition and talk on the subject. Call Grace on 01744 456725.
