EURO MP Terry Wynn is ap-pealing to Newton's churches to ring their bells to commemorate a ban on landmines.
Mr Wynn is urging bellringers in Newton to join others all over Europe at 12 noon on March 1, when the anti-landmine agreement will be signed in Ottowa, Canada.
Said Mr Wynn: "This would be a great opportunity to celebrate a total ban on an entire class of weapons. There is still a great deal of work to do on mine clearance and the European Parliament is very actively involved in raising awareness in this area."
