Knutsford A 4

Timperley FC 2

KNUTSFORD built a healthy 3-0 lead in the opening 23 minutes on Saturday.

But it was just as well.

For by the 25th minute the game looked somewhat different when Alan Brown was sent off for hand ball.

Teenager Matthew Stimpson had opened the scoring for Knutsford before he too was withdrawn after only 15 minutes with a groin injury.

Equally youthful Simon Thornley substituted.

Further goals by Darby and a superb header from Neil Birchenough gave Knutsford the cushion they needed.

An awkwardly-angled shot from Anwar of Timperley caught goalkeeper Roberts in two minds and in the resulting chaos Brown's impulsive action on the goal-line saw him sent off.

Knutsford re-organised at half-time and weathered a period of Timperley pressure before emerging the clear winners.

The visitors created a number of good chances before Jimmy Evans finally secured the victory in the 70th minute.

Brad Fancis, Birchenough and Horan were outstanding for Knutsford and showed grit and determination to compensate for the loss of Brown.

Timperley scored a late second goal from a direct free kick but it came too late to worry Knutsford.

On Saturday, the A-team have a stern test away to arch rivals Atlantic at Navigation Road. Kick off 2pm.
