Manager Kenny Harrison said the Manchester Road club desperately needed help from the public to secure its future.

"Without support the club will be extinct after the end of this season," he said.

The club chairman said the players and committee members had recently dipped into their own pockets to save the club from bankruptcy, but times were hard.

"We are beginning to get things started, but we need support," he said.

Knutsford are currently second-placed in the Mid Cheshire League, but for two months it has been a struggle just to get the team kits washed.

But they have been told to improve their clubhouse to meet league standards.

"We have had a facility which over the years has gone to ruin and to rebuild the clubhouse and make it fully operational we need £10,000," said Mr Harrison.

In a desperate bid to raise money, a lottery has been set up and pleas for sponsorship have been sent to more than 100 local businesses and sports enthusiasts.

"It is quite serious and we have reached a do or die situation," said Mr Harrison.

"The problem has been that no one in Knutsford seems to know we exist and we now want to establish ourselves as part of the community."
