Carlsberg West Cheshire Football League Division One

Newton FC 1

General Chemicals FC 4

THIS was yet another victory for General Chemicals which makes it seven wins in a row for the fine Runcorn side, albeit the first-half was not one of their better performances, this was a convincing win for Jimmy Williams team.

Chemics opened the scoring in the first minutes as Mark Vickers forced the ball over the line, Paul Howard had chances to increase the lead, he saw a fine headed goal disallowed and two shots missing the target.

So it was 1-0 at half-time and Chemics star midfielder Gareth Birchall had received an injury, he was replaced by Pete Houghton after the interval.

New signing Karl Thomas making his debut held the ball up well and looks like he will be an asset to the Runcorn team's front line.

Shortly after half-time Lee Gray and Paul Howard combined for Howard to register goal number two.

Two similar goals followed as the Newton centre-backs were well beaten by high balls, Mark Vickers latched onto the first to score is second of the day and then Pete Houghton fired home from a Karl Thomas flick.

Newton were allowed a consolation goal in the dying minutes but really the second-half had seen them out played by a stronger more skilful side.

There were outstanding performances by Mark Ingham, Mark Cahill, Mick Hill and not forgetting Geoff Wolfe at the heart of the Chem's defence, gaining the 'salmon' title for his ability in the air.

Next week Chemics entertain Vauxhall in another league fixture, kick-off 2.30pm at Pavilions, Saturday, February 13.

The £100 tote winner for this week was Mark Robinson with number 147.
