Middlewich Town 3 Warrington Boro 1
Mid-Cheshire League
WITH recent signings Daryl Moss and Ben Fuller in their line-up, Town started brightly with Fuller bringing a fine save from the Warrington keeper.
But it was young Gareth Langley who got the breakthrough after only seven minutes. A superb ball from Steve Rowlands split the Warrington defence, and Langley sprinted away from the defenders before coolly slotting his shot under the keeper.
Middlewich were creating chance after chance, and Rowlands was unlucky with an effort from the edge of the box which again brought a good save from the visitors' keeper.
But Town's second wasn't long coming and again it was that man Langley who got it. A ball was played wide from Moss to Rowlands who beat two defenders and crossed a splendid ball into the box. Fuller challenged and the ball dropped to an unmarked Langley who hit it on the half volley to score his side's second.
Middlewich were looking hungry for a win after two recent defeats, with Simon Evans, Darren Ingham and Mike Twite closing down Warrington's midfield.
Dave Coleman was being well protected in Town's goal, and it was Twite who got the third five minutes before the interval.
Again a cross from Steve Rowlands provided the chance, and Twite climbed the highest to power his header home.
The second half saw a couple of changes for Middlewich with Twite off with a calf strain and Fuller with an ankle problem, to be replace respectively by Olliver and new signing Les Miranda.
Miranda was straight into action, dribbling past two defenders to play in Langley who should have completed his hat-trick but he hit his shot wide of the goal.
This was Langley's last action as he came off due to a twisted ankle, begin replaced by Steve Moss.
Warrington, to their credit, pushed Town all the way for their victory and got a consolation goal after Jump missed his header, and Johnson went through to hit a low shot past Coleman.
Middlewich had the last attack with Evans playing a splendid ball forward into the path of Miranda who smashed his shot against the crossbar.
Man of the match: Gareth Langley.
