PRETTY Shelley Pickering has been chosen as the 1999 Northwich Carnival Queen.

Fourteen-year-old Shelley, from Acton Bridge, will take part in the town's parade on Saturday July 3.

Her ladies-in-waiting are Lauren Dewsbury, 12, from Leftwich, Sarah Harrison, 11, and Crystal Joynson, 11, both from Northwich.

Other children selected to take part in the parade are: Crown bearer, Kristian Whitehead-Caldicott, five, from Northwich; sceptre bearer Ashley Whitehead-Caldicott, 10, from Northwich; sash bearer Paul Capper, 10, from Delamere Park; and escort boy Joshua Ashley, seven, from Leftwich. The train bearers are Fern Taylor, five, from Rudheath, Jessica Nields, five, from Northwich, Sophie Griffiths, six, from Leftwich, and Danielle Hassall, six, from Castle. Rosebud queen is to be Laura Brown, eight, from Northwich and her flowers girls are Nicola Mellor, seven, from Northwich, Samantha Pugh, seven, from Northwich, Laura Katie Goolding, eight, from Winnington, and Charlotte Dean, seven, from Northwich. Princess will be Natalie Hough, 10, from Rudheath and the maids of honour are Holly-Marie Garner, nine, from Northwich, Lisa Morter, nine, from Northwich, Catriona Skinner, 10, from Castle, and Siobhan Healey, nine, from Northwich.

Vale Royal prince is Thomas Taylor, eight, from Greenbank, Vale Royal princess is Bobbie Hamilton, seven, from Weaverham, junior empress Leila Wills, 12, from Byley, senior empress Amy Stubbs, 15, from Greenbank, overall winner Laura Sanderson, 13, from Winsford. Emma Caffery, 17, from Barnton, was chosen as Valentine Personality.
