FARSLEY CELTIC 0

WITTON recorded their first league double of the campaign in the most one-sided Wincham Park clash of the season writes Scott McLeod.

Farsley Celtic have never beaten Albion and, if Saturday's evidence is anything to go by, it is easy to understand why.

They never came to terms with the home side's wide array of passing and, in particular, the lightning fast pace of striker David Anane.

His first game back after injury didn't blunt the player's threat and, in the opening half an hour, he ran the visitors ragged.

Indeed, by the time he had centred from the left wing for Neil Lloyd to notch up the first goal of his Wincham Park career in the eighth minute, a string of Witton chances had already gone begging.

Anane went on to net himself before being replaced by player manager Eddie Bishop shortly after the hour mark as a precautionary measure.

By that stage the game was won. In fact, had Albion been sharper in front of goal, it could have been over by the half hour mark.

Andy Lovelock fired narrowly wide from 10 yards on nine minutes and Lloyd missed a chance on 11 minutes virtually identical to the one he had scored four minutes earlier. The cross had been provided by Anane.

And he again turned provider for the second goal on 16 minutes. His shot from the edge of the area was spilled by the less than confident Farsley 'keeper, Paul Allen. Lloyd pounced to hit a rebound which cannoned off Allen's chest and into the path of Gleghorn, who passed into the empty net from six yards.

On two occasions before the break Albion were unlucky not to make it three. The first came on 28 minutes when Gleghorn floated a free kick from 18 yards just over the bar.

Five minutes later and Charlie Boyd played a delightful reverse pass into the path of Andy Lovelock on the inside right. He surged into the area before seeing a well-hit shot fumbled behind for a corner by Allen.

Astonishingly, the visitors' first shot of note on the Albion goal came on 47 minutes, from 30 yards! Robbie Whellans free kick scorched through the air, sizzling inches wide of the upright.

The third came a minute short of the hour, Anane capping a great display with a nice finish from the left edge of the area after Boyd's pass had beaten Farsley's ineffective offside trap.

Richard Carter netted the fourth, mopping up from close range after an eye-catching Gleghorn effort from an acute angle on the left wing could only be blocked by Allen.

It gave a justifiably one-sided appearance to the scoreline on an afternoon when Albion reignited their season thanks, in the main, to the tireless running of one David Anane.
