LATCHFORD played their first match against vastly experienced opposition and emerged with great credit.

In a thrilling contest played under the Victoria Park floodlights, Latchford equalled Rylands until their match fitness took its toll.

The try scorers for Latchford were Joe Mellor, four and Ben Reynolds. They were supported in attack by Brittan, Southworth and Dearden while Andrews, James, Hall and Weeks all worked hard. Daryl Cox was particularly outstanding.

THE Sharks led until a late equaliser earned St. Judes a draw.

An outstanding performance by Woodward claimed the man of the match award and Dean was very impressive to take top tackler. McKeon worked hard for the special award.

Tries were scored by Woodward, 2, Duffy and Thursfield. Duffy goaled once.

LATCHFORD'S defence was outstanding against tough opposition but this was not reflected in the 12-0 half-time scoreline.

The piled on the pressure and were rewarded with a try resulting from a barnstorming run by Joe Gandy. Mike Linaker converted.

Tony Alderman's first try and a kick from Danny O'Brien levelled the scores.

Latchford's best were Jack Price, Dean Worrall and Gandy while David Jones won player of the match. Best tackler was Danny O'Brien and Tony Alderman won the coaches' award.

WOOLSTON took the lead shortly after the break with two unconverted tries.

The Griffins fought back with good drives by Flint, Stout and Lester for Hutchinson to finish with a great try which he then converted.

Best for the Griffins were Cunliffe, Hutchinson and Stout.

CROSFIELDS did not deserve to lose this vital league game which could determine the championship.

Soap led for most of the match and thought they had sealed their victory but a Mellor try was disallowed.

The try scorer was Billy Rowan while Chris Mellor goaled.

Crosfields have had five players selected for the Warrington Wolves u16s scholarship squad.
