TELEVISION licence dodgers are being warned to pay up or be prosecuted.
Licensing teams will be stepping up inquiries in the town to target TV cheats.
3,500 people have been caught since April 1998 for not paying the £97.50 fee, a figure that puts the town 28th in the list of worst offenders in the UK.
Officers will be checking on unlicensed addresses and people without a valid licence could face fines of up to £1,000.
Regional manager Doug Mullin said: "With our new equipment, the question for cheats is not if you get caught but when.
"I would caution unlicensed viewers against the false economy of thinking they can get away with it. They should buy a licence now."
