LYMM Angling Club members are fishing for bits at the moment with most waters giving up reasonable numbers of small roach, rudd, perch and skimmers.
Small baits and light tackle are required to tempt bites at present. The Sankey Canal is showing signs of improvement with decent catches being made at Bewsey and Sankey Bridges.
The Old Quay Canal can be relied upon to produce some reasonable fish. Good sized perch up to 1lb are being caught regularly on either worm over caster or caster over chopped worm. Roach and rudd are filling the gaps between perch action.
Lymm Dam continues to supply a steady stream of small fish although anglers have to fish close to features to get any consistent action. Pike have made a showing this week, albeit intermittently.
Sunday's junior match on Statham Pool was a matter of quality rather than quantity.
Early in the match Neil Pope latched on to a carp which took 40 minutes to land due to his light tackle. However, his patience and skill was rewarded when he slipped his landing net under his 12lbs 10ozs prize.
Other competitors managed to land specimen roach and perch as well as the odd tench on a day when bites were few and far between.
Lymmvale opened to our trout fraternity on Monday with good catches of decent fish predicted.
This year heavier stockings of bigger fish are planned although the facility will have to be reasonably subscribed in order for it to continue in future years. For detailed catch information watch this space.
Members are reminded that fishing is by the Lymmvale permit or a trout day ticket. These are available from the PO Box, Cheshire Angling, in Latchford or the Post Office at Utkinton.
Sunday's work party at Lymm Dam was diverted to Grimsditch Mill Pool in order to complete the work undertaken the previous week. This week's party is scheduled for 9am on Sunday at Lymm Dam.
