Abbey Hey 2

Tetley Walker 0

TETLEY Walker lost to Abbey Hey for the third time this season despite creating enough chances to win the game.

Playing without their recognised leading front two of Kevin Dack and Tony Plant, Walker started strongly and were unlucky not to open the scoring through Lee Newbould in the 10th minute.

The home side went in front after 22 minutes when they broke quickly after clearing a Walker corner.

A combination of poor defending and an awkward bounce allowed Dean Martin to score.

Eight minutes later Abbey Hey were two up when they took advantage of a strong wind by playing a long ball over the Walker defence into the path of Shaun Pickering, who coolly chipped the ball over Lee Medland.

Walker hit back in the closing minutes of the first half as Newbould flashed a shot wide of the post and Robbie Preidt twice had headers cleared off the line.

There was almost a reprieve for Walker when the referee pulled a hamstring with 15 minutes to go.

Just as the game was about to be abandoned a North Western Trains League official, who was at the game as a spectator, stepped forward to fill in as the third official.

The last 10 minutes were all action as both sides went close to scoring.

As Walker pushed forward looking for a goal, the Manchester side hit them on the break and were twice denied only by fine saves from Medland.

Team: Medland, Roberts, Plant, Holden, Trantum, Jones, Maher, Preidt, Clay, Newbould, Gwyther. Subs: Healey, Smith, Street.

Tomorrow, Saturday, Tetley Walker visit Colne, kick-off 3pm, in the North Western Trains League Division Two.
