THE Government has announced measures which spell good news for Warrington's waterways.
Environment Minister Michael Meacher has outlined to water companies the environmental obligations they will have to fund between the years 2000 and 2005.
These measures will go some way to helping the problems caused by sewer outflows which were designed so that the system could cope with heavy rainfall.
Clive Gaskell of the Environment Agency said: "We are delighted that the Government has given its wholehearted support to our environmental programme and we can at last set environmental standards fit for the 21st Century"
