A SUPERFIT satellite TV engineer is taking on the country's mountains of muscle in a bid to prove he is Britain's Fittest Man.

Ken Burt, aged 33, of Dunnock Grove, Oakwood, has entered the gruelling X-Zone Challenge, a televised competition to be held on March 20 and 21.

Competitors will have to prove themselves in 10 demanding events which include press-ups, rowing and scaling walls and cargo nets though no-one knows exactly what the challenges will involve.

"I have been training and running every day," said Ken, "and working hard to build up my upper body strength.

"I can eat anything in moderation and I drink protein and energy drinks. I also eat rice cakes and take plenty of glucose."

Ken is determined to finish the event and he has a great fan club backing him all the way, his partner Nicola and children Bradley, Kiale and Shannon.

"They call me Superman," he said - and he has a tattoo to prove it!

If you would like to sponsor Ken and help raise money for the Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation call him on 812286 or 822556.

Meanwhile, a former Warrington scout leader is preparing to prove she has what it takes to become Britain's Fittest Woman.

Police constable Denise Harris, aged 38, is also taking part in the competition. The ex-St James scouts' Akela, who used to live in Cambrai Avenue but now works for the British Transport Police at London's Victoria Station, is testing her mettle on behalf of the children's mobility charity Whiz-Kidz.

People interested in backing her fund-raising bid can contact her on 0171 922 6235.
