THE bride arrived at the church on time, the best man didn't forget the ring, but things still didn't go quite to plan at Tim and Laura Booth's wedding.

Guests turned up at All Saints' Church, Glazebury last Friday to find that the building had been plunged into darkness by a power cut just five minutes before the ceremony was due to start.

And as The Reverend Bernard Clark carried on the ceremony through the gloom, they realised there was another problem - the electric powered organ wouldn't work either.

Luckily, the church has a stand-by in the form of a piano, so the organist was able to accompany the congregation in the first song - All Things BRIGHT And Beautiful!

Tim's dad, George, said: "The power went off about five minutes before the bride arrived, but luckily the organist was prepared and got on the piano. The title of the first hymn was rather ironic!"

Mr Clark added: "We did wonder at first what we were going to do, but luckily, everyone made a joke of it. In the end, I don't think anyone was put out at all."

Tim, aged 32, and Laura, aged 23, have set up home on Warrington Road, Glazebury, but won't be setting off on their honeymoon just yet. Tim is a farmer and the ceremony had been organised to avoid the imminent lambing season.

Tim said: "Apparently about 10 minutes after the ceremony, the electrics came back on! Still, it would have been boring if everything had run smoothly."

And Laura added: "When I got to the church and my dad told me the electricity was off, I didn't believe him because he's a bit of a practical joker. But it was all okay in the end."
