RAIDERS tied up two female workers before stealing a substantial quantity of cash from a Warrington post office on Friday.
Two masked men broke into the rear of the premises and lay in wait overnight for staff to open the Orford Lane shop at about 8.55am.
They overpowered the women and tied them together before emptying the safe of its contents and escaping.
The women managed to free themselves after more than 15 minutes and raised the alarm. They were not injured but were left badly shaken and shocked following the ordeal.
Police are now appealing for witnesses who may have seen the balaclava-clad robbers escaping with their haul. Detective Constable Andy Smith said: "It appears that the men have gained entry during the night and lay in wait for the postal staff.
"When they turned the alarm off, they were attacked and tied together and then the men emptied the safe.
"The two women were understandably very distressed but unharmed," he said.
The pair escaped using a back alley and ran off in the direction of the Forshaw Street and Leonard Street.
DC Smith added: "We would like anybody who may have seen the men to contact us to help us catch these men."
