SCHOOL pupils from Great Sankey, Culcheth and Oughtrington are taking part in this year's Music For Youth concert series, Europe's largest music festival.

Culcheth High School's Swing Band and Orchestra along with Oughtrington Primary School Choir have performed at Childwall Comprehensive School last Saturday while taking to their home stage next Saturday will be Great Sankey High School's flute quartet, brass band, concert band, swing band and clarinet quintet, known as Silver Keys.

More than 35,000 young musicians are taking part in 43 regional festivals organised in collaboration with the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music.

Around 250 of the groups will be selected to take part in the national at London's South Bank Centre from July 5 to 10. Thirty will also be chosen to appear in the MFY Proms at the Royal Albert Hall in November.
