THE Parr Hall tournament held by Bridge Foot Amateur Boxing Club produced a hat-trick of wins for the club's heavyweight prospects.

Super heavyweight Phil Farrington, aged 23, made it six wins in eight contests with an unanimous points verdict over A. Smith of Leigh.

Farrington had beaten Smith in January in a close contest but this time left the result in no doubt with a fine display of controlled boxing and aggression.

Thirty-year-old light heavyweight Brett Mankee made an impressive debut with a second round demolition of G. Bell from the Shotton Club. Several huge uppercuts left his opponent on shaky legs and forced the referee's intervention.

In the best contest of the night, 25-year-old heavyweight Peter Merrall won a clear points decision over tough opponent H. Stevenson from Stoke.

Merrall, who has already been offered a professional contract, gained valuable experience against an opponent with 30 contests under his belt.

The only set back of the night for Bridge Foot was the defeat of 28-year-old middleweight Tony Harper in his contest with J. Parsonage of Llay Amateur Boxing Club.

Harper suffered only his fourth defeat in 16 bouts and will be out to put the record straight in a return contest at Bridge Foot Club's next tournament at the Village Hotel on April 22.
