BUDDING bards from St Peter's CE School have been honoured by Education Secretary David Blunkett for bringing the muse to a Newton rest home.
The caring poetry prodigies regularly visit Linear Park Rest Home, on Bradley Road, to read their self-penned verse to the residents.
Now, they have been awarded the The Duchy of Lancaster Schools' Award in recognition of their efforts to improve the quality of life for elderly people.
The pupils travelled to a prestigous ceremony at Liverpool Town Hall this week to receive £5,000 and a bronze bowl in the presence of Mr Blunkett.
St Peter's headteacher Barbara Horsfall said: "We're delighted. The children have gained a great deal from their committed efforts and it is very pleasing to see their endeavours, and those of the staff, recognised in this way."
