ROAD TAX dodgers in Warrington could be in for an expensive surprise during March. Clamping teams from Merseyside and Manchester are extending their 'Denver Boot blitz' into the town as part of a national campaign to cut down on evaders.
The Driver Vehicle Licensing Agency offensive is running throughout the month and clampers are working closely with police. The DVLA estimates there are 6,000 unlicensed cars in Warrington.
Drivers without a valid disc will face heavy fines as well as having to buy a new one. If they fail to do so, their pride and joy could be sold-on or even crushed.
Spokeswoman Julie Powell said: "This will be the first time the road tax clampers have operated in Cheshire so people without an up-to-date licence are being warned."
Sergeant John Hayes, of the town's traffic division, said: "Persistent tax dodgers are often unconcerned by normal fixed penalty tickets, but having their vehicle clamped or even towed away will hit them hard."
